Also known as 'Ball Cactus', the roots of this genus are very sensitive! It is very important to follow the watering directions and make sure that they are never left in standing water. A second warning for these tiny titans is that they generally don’t do well in full sun … ever. There are a few species that do, but they are few and far between.  They grow slowly, possibly reaching 6-7 inches in size, though some stay at 3 inches, and can take at least 3 years before blooming.  They are hardy to USDA zones 6 to 7, so may need to be brought indoors at times in the winters here.

The genus includes over 25 different species.   In the 1980s the International Organization for Succulent Plant Study moved Notocactus into the Parodia genus. The move is still  controversial today.
