Hosta tardiflora 'El Nino' ; CPBR #2662
A medium-sized hosta with lovely, chalky blue-green, heart-shaped leaves with distinctive creamy yellow margins that whiten as the foliage matures. Violet-blue bell-shaped flowers appear on upright stems from mid to late summer. Moderate growing; forms foliage clump 14 to 20 in. tall, 28 to 40 in. wide.
Pairs well with bright, variegated hosta varieties. The thick, sturdy foliage resists slug damage. An herbaceous perennial.
Provide slightly acidic, evenly moist, well-drained, humusy soil. Avoid harsh sun exposures. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish an extensive root system; once established, reduce frequency. Remove old, faded foliage before new leaves emerge in early spring.
