One of the best cooking apples, Granny Smith has crisp, tart and juicy fruit with a good balance of acids and sugars. Medium-sized apples have pale to medium green skin with distinctive whitish dots. Requiring only 400 to 500 winter chill hours, and a longer season to ripen, this variety is favored in mild winter areas. Deciduous.
