A compact yucca-like plant with soft, green leaves. Both the flowers and the tall stalks are stunning crimson-red. The tubular flowers are a favorite of hummingbirds and many pollinators. This desert plant thrives in poor soils and hot, arid climates. Evergreen. Reaches 2 ft. tall and wide; flowers to 3 ft.
Easily grown in average to lean, well-drained soil. Water regularly in first growing season to establish root system. Once established, reduce frequency; tolerates moderate dry spells, but prefers periodic water. Feed in early spring. Remove spent bloom stalks for a neat appearance. Protect young, tender plants from rabbits and deer.
