Air plants, or Tillandsia, are plants from the bromeliad family that do not need soil, but they still require care, including bright, indirect light and regular watering through misting or soaking. They absorb water and nutrients through specialized leaf hairs called trichomes, and need good air circulation to dry completely after being watered, which helps prevent rot. Proper care includes soaking once a week for 20 minutes to an hour or more frequent rinsing and providing adequate light to encourage blooming, which happens once in a lifetime.
