Euonymus fortunei 'Coloratus'
Ivy-like growth makes this an outstanding evergreen groundcover or low, spreading shrub. Deep green foliage turns a beautiful, rich plum color during the cool season. Tolerates some shade, particularly in hot climates. Will climb nearby structures or walls.
This is perhaps the most cold-hardy and durable groundcovers and one of the few that offers an autumn show. May double as a vine climbing up fences and screens. Also offers great erosion control on slopes and banks, plus it spills off raised planters and retaining walls like molten lava.
Adaptable and easy to grow in average, well-drained soils. Avoid poorly drained, soggy soils. Space 5 ft. apart as groundcover; closer for faster fill. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish root system. Once established, reduce frequency; tolerates mild drought. Feed in early spring. Prune annually to shape.
