Arizona rainbow cactus/Echinocereus Rigidissimus
Description- this cactus is a solitary globular cactus with spines that lay flat against the stem. although smaller than most straight variants this cactus has short purple/red spines and stigma lobes.The cactus will not turn grey as it ages like other cacti it will indefinitely retain its vibrant colorful spines. during spring you may expect your cactus to bloom magenta colored flowers that will develop at the top of the cactus and about 3 months after blooming it will produce spiney green to brown fruits.
SUN-full or as much as possible
WATERING-water sparingly as overwatering will lead to root rot. it is better to allow the cactus to be irrigated by rain water.
SOIL-tolerates poor soil but its best to use slightly acidic to neutral compost without lime (PH 5-7) use well draining cactus soil supplemented with 70-80% sand, grit, pumice, or perlite to help with drainage.
MATURE SIZE- 0-5 ft tall 0-5 ft wide
HARDINESS ZONES 9-11
TEMP/HUMIDITY-can withstand temperatures down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Cool and dry conditions should be provided during winter to observe dormancy although it can survive a light frosting it should still be brought inside during winter.
